Abstract
In this paper, the authors explored counselling for elders and their family members with regards to ageing issues. The focus of discussion is on the concept of gerontology, counselling and gerontology counselling as well as distinctive characteristics of the concept. Works of gerontological counsellor and applicability of the gerontological counselling in Nigerian setting. Counsellors with older people and their families, managers of day care centres and residential institutions, policymakers, professional caregivers and those who intend to give professional instruction through workshops will find this paper essential and useful.
